1. Arrive 15–20 Minutes Early: Paperwork & Tour.
You’ll need time to sign a waiver, meet the front desk staff, get a quick tour of the facilities (changing rooms, mat rules), and potentially get fitted for loaner gear like gloves or a Gi.
2. The Warm-Up: 10–15 Minutes.
Combat sports warm-ups are rigorous. In boxing, expect skipping rope, shadowboxing, and calisthenics. In BJJ, you’ll likely do "mat movements" like hip escapes (shrimping), forward rolls, and bear crawls. Go at your own pace—nobody expects you to be in peak fighting shape immediately.
3. Technique & Drilling: 30–40 Minutes.
The coach will demonstrate a specific technique (e.g., throwing a proper 1-2 punch combination or executing a basic scissor sweep from the guard). You will pair up with a partner—often an experienced student who can guide you—to practice the movement slowly and safely with zero resistance.
4. End of Class
At the end of a boxing class, this usually means heavy bag work, pad work, or core conditioning. As a first-timer, you will not be doing any sparring or live training or you will be paired directly with a coach or upper belt who can safely control the pace without anyone getting hurt.
These classes are perfect for beginners, novices, or anyone who has been out of the gym for stretches. Come and learn in a fun, no contact environment!
